Do you struggle with Self-Discipline?
Many of us struggle with self-discipline. I know I often do. Sometimes it takes the right motivation, or maybe the right coach. This week’s guest knows about self-discipline. In fact, he wrote a book about it, called “Climbing the Self-Discipline Tree” where he discusses the 3 phases essential for accomplishing any goal. So, do you struggle with self-discipline? If so, check out this conversation with my guest Zach Mathews…
Who is Zach Mathews and what is Fast & Focus?
Zach is an online intermittent fasting coach, author, a fellow podcaster, and speaker.
He’s dedicated his life to helping others unlock the benefits of intermittent fasting and show them how to lose weight fast–even with a demanding career! In his book, “Climbing the self-discipline tree”, Zach explains how the process of accomplishing one’s goals in life is a lot like climbing a tree: everyone starts the climb, but very few actually make it to the top. What’s stopping people from seeing those goals through to the peak? For many, it’s their lack of self-discipline.
Inside this book, you will learn:
- The 3 essential phases needed to accomplish any goal
- How to use your passions to establish personal and professional vision
- How to set your goals up for success
- How to organize your goals effectively
- How to cleanse your life of toxic distractions/influences
- The role that exercise and nutrition play in success
- How healthy habits can help you overcome adversity
- Why rewards are necessary for developing strong habits
Whether you’re an entrepreneur, freelancer, or looking to climb the corporate ladder at your current employer, the strategies and tools in the book will give you the essentials you need to accomplish your personal and professional goals.

REALLY enjoyed this conversation with Zach Matthews, Wilk! I’ve heard about Intermittent Fasting for several years now, but have never participated long term. I recently downloaded an IF App but haven’t utilized it consistently.
I registered for Matthew’s Free E-Book (which is a quick 7-page read) and am now “Following” his Podcast. I’ll be interested to see where it leads (and if I can discipline myself to follow his advice!).
Thanks for sharing your own personal story about those things that you and your wife have given up in order to focus on more important goals. I’m very impressed!
Thanks for another great episode of “Derate the Hate”. I always enjoy your guests and the wisdom they have to share.
