Episode 114: Is Hate Being Taught To Our Children? Group discussion on the book “STAMPED” by Ibram X. Kendi and Jason Reynolds

Is hate being taught to our children in the public, and some private schools? A couple months ago my cousin brought to my attention a book that his 8th grade daughter had been assigned for a book review in her NW Iowa school. I was familiar with some of the toxicity that Ibram X. Kendi had been spreading, but I was not aware that his material was being used in our public school system, much less that it was being taught to 8th graders, and even younger.

“Stamped” Racism, Antiracism and You
This was not a book I had read, and I admittedly did not want to spend the money on it, but I didn’t feel it would be right if I discussed it on my show without doing so. In the beginning, authors Ibram X Kendi and Jason Reynolds define in their terms, segregationists, assimilationists, and antiracists. For the remainder of the book, they use their version of revisionist history to attribute every perceived disparity and/or racial inequity since the beginning of time to “white privilege”, segregationist whites, weak black assimilationists, or just the evils of white racism.

Episode 102: From Left to Libertarian, A Pro-Human Perspective in the Twin Cities… with Dan Garscia

As many of the regular listeners know, I love organizations that are all about bringing people together, promoting unity and community while also recognizing that we are all individuals with our own thoughts and ideas. This is why I truly adore and respect organizations like FAIR (Foundation Against Intolerance & Racism), Braver Angels and so many others that I have highlighted on the podcast. My friend Rick of Braver Angels recently introduced me Dan Garscia who is a spokesperson for the local Twin Cities chapter of FAIR.

The conversation in this episode was not originally meant to be one for broadcast, but just an introductory conversation between Dan and myself to find out more about FAIR Twin Cities. During the conversation, things were clicking with incredible synergy, so Dan and I decided this would be something of value to the DTH listeners. I have once again found a great collaborator for the Derate the Hate podcast in my new friend Dan Garscia of FAIR Twin Cities. Share this episode with your network, and more importantly, seek out and get involved with local chapters of great organizations like FAIR, Braver Angels and so many others doing great work to bring people together…

Episode 77: School Choice is an Answer, But it’s Not The Only Answer… conversation with Tony Kinnett of The Chalkboard Review

I asked the question last week, “What do you think of the K-12 public education system as it exists today?” I think that most people who are paying attention, if being intellectually honest, would say that it’s a complete mess and it’s in many ways out of control. It is certainly out of control in terms of parents being in control of their children’s education. Many would say, and have said, that the K-12 public education system has become just another indoctrination mill for the loudest voices with a poisonous agenda. Just this week, we’ve seen the Department of Justice put out notice that those who oppose CRT and other poisonous curriculum should be monitored as domestic terrorists. Kind of scary isn’t it?

In my conversation this week,  Tony Kinnett of the Chalkboard Review and I discuss his piece that was recently published in the National Review titled “Conservatives, Take Back the Education Field”. We also discuss the reality that school choice, while certainly an important cause that is desperately needed, is not the only answer to solve the problems we face as a nation with our education system. It will take much more than school choice legislation to fix the mess we’re in. So many important points came out of this great conversation with Tony. Don’t miss this great conversation and be sure to share it far and wide…

Episode 76: An Eye on Education, Cameras in the Classroom? …with Dr. Elana Fishbein

What are your thoughts on the K-12 public education system as it exists today in our country? In recent weeks and months we’ve seen several instances where fed up parents and community members have stood up to school boards all over the country, due to any number or reasons, be it CRT, LGBTQ curriculum, mask mandates, etc…

Dr. Elana Fishbein of No Left Turn in Education is no stranger to the Derate The Hate podcast. We first spoke back in Episode 45 when No Left Turn was just a couple months in to their battle against the indoctrination that so many are becoming fed up with in our K-12 education system.  A lot has been happening with Dr. Fishbein and the No Left Turn organization since we last spoke, including some legal battles and working on proposed legislation to get cameras in to classrooms for full transparency of what our children are being taught.

Episode 74: Ideas That Get Your “of color” Card Revoked… with Angel Eduardo

Have you ever had a conversation with someone and came away thinking, if the world had more thinkers such as this, the world would be a much calmer and better place for everyone? The deep thinker I’m talking about is Angel Eduardo and I’m grateful this week for having the opportunity to speak with Angel on the Derate the Hate podcast.

I recently read a piece by Angel published in Newsweek, “Stop calling me “white” for having the wrong opinions”, which stood out to me as something that seems to happen with much greater frequency these days. It seems if people of color don’t have the “correct” ideas or opinions, they are said to be “acting white” or called “white” as a pejorative. This is not only a disgusting form of racism and bullying, but it’s a nonsensical attempt by some to keep us divided. Angel has more than a little to say about this so you’re not going to want to miss this conversation!

Episode 64: Unhyphenated America, Let’s Just Be American… with Christoper Harris

What’s it mean to be an American? Is America great despite the sins of the past, and if so, what makes America Great? I for one truly believe that the United States of America is the greatest nation on God’s green earth, and it’s high time people stop allowing divisive forces to put labels upon us, and we all just start acting like Americans again. Christoper Harris is one that knows a lot about a lot, and he knows that being an American doesn’t need, and shouldn’t have, a hyphenated identity qualifier in front of it…
The message Chris is putting out is not only incredibly important, but many of the same divisive forces I speak regularly of in this podcast don’t want you to know his message exists. It’s not the standard narrative and this message must be spread far and wide!
