Communicating Better by Following the Platinum Rule… DTH Episode 135 with Jennifer Furlong

Communicating Better by Following the Platinum Rule

One of the largest problems we face in society today is the fact that we do not communicate well. We spend so much time talking past each other instead of speaking to each other in a way to effectively be understood. Effective communication is a two way street that involves so much more than just trying to get our point across.

How can we communicate better?

There are many ways we can learn to communicate better and more effectively. One way of communicating better is by following the platinum rule. I only recently learned about the platinum rule when I became introduced to this week’s incredible guest, Jennifer Furlong.

What Shape Are Your Emotions In? DTH Episode 133… Talking Emotional Fitness with Matthew & Chantal of 5th.Place

What Shape Are Your Emotions In?

Did you know that emotions had a shape? I personally did not until I was approached recently by this week’s guests. As someone who talks a lot on the podcast about emotions and how we need to understand and react well to our emotions, I was intrigued. It wasn’t until I began to look in to Matthew & Chantal from 5th.Place that I knew about the Shape of Emotion… So what shape are your emotions in?

What is Shape of Emotion?

“Shape of Emotion is a model, process and tool of how we structure, store, represent and regulate our inner feeling states.”  Working at the intersection of mindfulness and affective science, Chantal Dawtrey and Matthew Green of 5th Place developed Shape of Emotion as one way to address the scale of the mental health problem that stands in the way of learning, potential and hope. You can find some incredible tools and learn more about Shape of Emotion by visiting the 5th.Place website or listening to Matthew & Chantal’s podcast “Emotions Matter. Really!”

Episode 115: Is Hate Getting in the Way of you Winning At Life? …with Dylan Rogers

Have you ever asked yourself the question, “what is the best way for me to obtain and secure a meaningful life?”. “Is hate getting in the way of me winning at life?”

 What is a meaningful life?
People find meaning in all different sorts of ways. For some, it’s family, some it’s career. For some it’s money and and for many, it’s just a matter of their own definition of success. As for this week’s guest, he knew that to secure a meaningful life, he must secure a happy life. With a background in engineering, he was determined to break down the most profound obstacles to happiness and fix the problem. What is the problem? Hate…

Dylan Rogers and his book, “Winning at Life”
Dylan J Rogers is infinitely driven to make a positive impact on the lives of others and has a relentless passion to inspire positive change.

As an experienced engineer, earning a Masters in Systems Engineering and working with the US military, Dylan developed the skills required to solve the most complex problems life has to offer. He also works as a Master Resilience Trainer, teaching Airmen how to thrive in life instead of just surviving through it. Dylan has learned from masters of change like Tony Robbins, and earned a life coaching certification through Tony’s program. And from the six year process of writing his book, Winning at Life, he has found the answer on how to discover the meaning in your life, how to create lasting happiness, and how to understand and remove the burden of hate.

Episode 112: The Role of Emotions in the Gun Control Debate… Facts Over Hate

I have said it time and time again on this podcast, and many of my guests have referenced the notion, that a common factor that leads to much anger and hate, is ignorance. It should come as no surprise then, and cannot be overstated, how much effort is put in by opportunist politicians and media outlets in driving the Hate agenda by keeping people ignorant to the truth, instead of presenting actual Facts, about civilian gun ownership in this country.

There are few things that will rile the emotions of most people like the death of a child, and rightfully so. With that said, the media and opportunist politicians know this, and have made it their M.O. to pounce, using these relatively rare and isolated nightmarish tragedies to drive their political and social agendas, without ever presenting real facts, or putting the numbers in to context, or looking at the much larger underlying issues that go to the nucleus of the problem. They simply rely upon ignorance and emotions, 2 of the leading causes of Hate, to steer their narrative. They do it because it is effective.

Please join me for this incredibly important episode, where I lay out some very important facts about guns, gun ownership, and so-called “gun-violence” in the United States today and trends in recent years. Please share this important episode with your network, especially those who out of pure ignorance and emotions lose sight of reality when it comes to the gun debate. If you feel something I’ve said is incorrect, feel free to reach out to me.

Episode 91: The Winter Blues and How To Beat The SAD

Have you ever had the winter blues? Do you know what the winter blues is? In a conversation I was recently having with some friends, a friend of mine mentioned the winter solstice, how the days were now going to start getting longer again, and how we were getting closer to spring and all the happiness that comes along with it.

This got me to thinking about something called the winter blues. I don’t know if I have personally ever been afflicted with the winter blues, but it’s likely I have. I decided to do a little research on this and found that it is also called Seasonal Affective Disorder or S.A.D. This SAD in most cases is just a severe case of the winter blues.

In the spirit of bettering the world one attitude at a time, I dug a little deeper and found the best ways to Beat the Winter Blues and wanted to share them with the DTH listeners.
