Episode 70: Redemption for Radicals? Shifting the Paradigm… conversation with Jeff Schoep

Do you believe in redemption for radicals? Do you believe those who’ve once believed in a hateful ideology or been party to hateful organizations can do anything to redeem themselves? I think it’s unwise to say that we cannot change the hearts and minds of those who’ve lead a life of hate and radical extremism. I would not be doing this podcast if I did not think they could be reached.

This week’s guest is a shining example of someone who has gone from extremism to counter-extremism and now devotes his time to de-radicalizing the haters instead of being the hater. Jeff Schoep, former Neo-Nazi and former leader of the National Socialist Movement here in the United States did not start out as a hateful extremist, but spent many years of his life on that side of the hate spectrum. You DO NOT want to miss this episode where I ask Jeff how he got to that point and what brought him back to a life not filled with hate and extremism.

Hear from Jeff how great folks like Daryl Davis and Deeyah Kahn and her movie “White Right Meeting the Enemy” played an important role in his paradigm shift and how all the folks at BeyondBarriersUSA.org are helping to de-radicalize people of all types of extremism. Again, you DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS EPISODE!!

Episode 69: Misery, Politics & Extemism… coming soon… DTH Quickshot Episodes

I’ve recently had the idea to start doing some shorter, often random more spur of the moment types of episodes in addition to the regular weekly episode. There are many things that come to me each week that I’d like to share in hopes of engaging more with the listeners. Some of these may just be audio from a YouTube, Tik Tok or other platform, or some may just be quick recordings I do when something strikes me. They may just be me responding to emails or messages on social media. Either way, they’ll likely be random and of varying lengths and topics, so watch for them and share whenever possible.

This week’s episode was just based upon things I’ve seen, done or had on my mind over the course of this past week. Are you miserable with your life, job or maybe a relationship? Misery is a choice that only you can choose to change. I also spoke this past week to the national leadership team of Braver Angels about the We The Peoples’ Forum which I’m honored to be a part of. If you have not heard of that, be sure to check out Episode 66 and my conversation with David Lapp of Braver Angels and the Working Peoples’ Project.

Episode 66: The Peoples’ Turn to Speak, We The Peoples’ Forum… with David Lapp of Braver Angels

Do you ever feel like the average working class American has no voice in today’s polarized political climate? Are you sick and tired, as I am, of those in big government, big tech and big media keeping the average working class American silent while giving those who wish to keep us divided the loudest voices? Why settle for being a prisoner of polarization? What if there were an organization that were to give the average working class American a chance to sound their voice at the podium? Let’s talk about the “We The Peoples’ Forum”, part of the Working Peoples’ Project within Braver Angels…

Episode 64: Unhyphenated America, Let’s Just Be American… with Christoper Harris

What’s it mean to be an American? Is America great despite the sins of the past, and if so, what makes America Great? I for one truly believe that the United States of America is the greatest nation on God’s green earth, and it’s high time people stop allowing divisive forces to put labels upon us, and we all just start acting like Americans again. Christoper Harris is one that knows a lot about a lot, and he knows that being an American doesn’t need, and shouldn’t have, a hyphenated identity qualifier in front of it…
The message Chris is putting out is not only incredibly important, but many of the same divisive forces I speak regularly of in this podcast don’t want you to know his message exists. It’s not the standard narrative and this message must be spread far and wide!

Episode 60: Critical Race Theory is Hateful Nonsense

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” ~Martin Luther King Jr.
There is very little doubt in my mind that Dr. King would be spinning in his grave when it comes to the topic of “Critical Race Theory”. There is way too much good in this world to let the loudest, most hateful and most divisive voices win the day. Critical Race Theory is just that, hateful and divisive nonsense.

Do you want your children automatically labeled as a victim or oppressed because they are a child of color? Do you want your child automatically labeled as a racist because they are white? That is how Critical Race Theory works, we shall no longer judge a person by the content of their character, but by the color of their skin. It does not matter how old you are, where you come from, what good or bad you’ve done in your life, nothing matters but the color of your skin…

Episode 49: Battling Extremism with an Alternative Narrative

Have you ever asked yourself, “Why don’t more Muslims stand up to Islamic Extremists?” Have you ever heard of Average Mohamed? Mohamed Ahmed is the creator and executive director of AverageMohamed.com and through his outreach and grass roots efforts, he is truly battling extremism with an alternative narrative.

What is Average Mohamed? Who better to tell you than Average Mohamed himself, Mohamed Ahmed. This week’s interview gives you a great insight in to what Mohamed does with his counter ideology organization dedicated to stopping extremism and hate. Average Mohamed uses pop culture, social media platforms like Facebook & YouTube, as well as other mediums to promote peace, democracy and anti-extremism. His outreach has put him in front of tens of thousands of youths across America and his videos have been seen millions of times worldwide.

Episode 41: Those Who Live In Glass Houses

There is a lot about us as individuals that make us unique, and it’s always better to get the whole story before passing judgement on others. You cannot always assume based on preconceived notions about the way one dresses, the job one has, or the ideologies or religion one follows that you know everything about someone. Be careful who you judge and why, because it just may be your own house you’re shattering with the stones you’re throwing…

Episode 40: Don’t Hate the Haters

Wilk here and again, Don’t hate the haters. One of the biggest battles I have to face personally is not allowing myself to hate those who are constantly trying to project their hate on others, or in my case, me. This is a battle we all must face because if you allow yourself to hate, soon that toxic hole within the souls of the real haters will develop within you. Check out episode 40 for more about this.

Episode 39: Unity, Through Conformity?

Unity for some these days means something totally different than what I think it means. Some call for UNITY, but what they are really calling for is for those with whom they disagree to conform. And if they do not conform, well then the non-conformists are the agitators and must be villainized, demonized and destroyed by whatever means possible, because of course, it’s their fault for not conforming in the name of “UNITY”.

Episode 31: Ugly Often Times Has Nothing To Do With Looks

With everything we are currently experiencing as a country and as a society these days, it has never been more important to be a good person and to be good to those around you. When did it become acceptable to attempt to demonize and destroy those with whom we disagree? I know, this is a rhetorical question, as I don’t in any way find it acceptable, but from what I’ve been seeing in recent years, there are obviously those who do. From people being shouted at and spit upon in a restaurant when trying to have dinner with their family, to sitting US Senators making up the most vile and heinous accusations against Supreme Court Justice nominees, we have seen the most disgusting discourse among people of differing viewpoints that one could possibly imagine, and this behavior must stop!
