Nazis at the Turning Point USA Event?

Did you hear about the Nazis at the Turning Point USA event? If those in the media, and more specifically, the gals on The View trying to perpetuate the Hate, you probably wouldn’t have. I thought it was another staged bit of nonsense. This is why I called up my friend Jeff Schoep.
We live in an age when certain people like to use their big platforms to perpetuate hate and false narratives to drive their own personal agendas. When I saw there were “Nazis” at the Turning Point USA student action summit in Tampa, Fl, I wanted to get the perspective of my friend Jeff Schoep. Jeff is the former head of the NSM ( National Socialist Movement) and the most high profile member of the neo-Nazi movement to leave the movement and devote his life to countering and preventing extremism. You may remember him from our conversation in Episode 70 of the Derate the Hate podcast.

Don’t miss this short but important conversation! Let me know what you think…

Episode 99: How Can You Hate Me When You Don’t Even Know Me? … with Daryl Davis

Have you ever stopped to really think about what the root cause of racism is? Politicians at every level, and those in the media, now more than ever before, speak in platitudes about race, finding new ways to interject race and racism into every story and topic, but do you ever hear them present real solutions that speak to the root cause of racism? The answer, in most cases, is probably NO.

When I was a child, a young man, and even to this day, I find great passion in befriending and just listening to the stories of, and finding wisdom in, those older and more seasoned in the ways of the world than me. Whether it was listening to my parents and their friends talking about growing up in our little mid-western towns, the widow on my paper route who had long since lost her husband and had few visitors, or the old man at the end of the bar that ran out of people to talk to, I loved it all and still do.

Doing the Derate the Hate podcast affords me opportunities to meet and speak with people that I may never otherwise encounter. For this I could not be more grateful. When I get the opportunity to speak with a true legend like Daryl Davis, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. If you do not know who Daryl Davis is, you need to stop what you’re doing and listen to every word he says in this incredible conversation. Daryl Davis is what many would call a superhero in the ranks of race relations. Do you want to know what a man who’s devoted a large portion of his adult life to converting white supremacists says the root cause of racism is? Don’t miss this conversation…

That’s right, Daryl Davis, a black man that has gone right to the source of Hate, having sat face to face with members of the American Nazi party, the KKK and many other organizations of HATE, joins me in this week’s episode of the Derate the Hate podcast. How did Daryl Davis play an instrumental role in rehabilitating upwards of 200 KKK members, leading them to a life of peace and civility rather than Hate? Don’t miss this conversation…

Episode 78: Sought Identity, Found by Hate, Working Toward Redemption… with Fredrick Cook

“Everybody wants to be the hero in their own life story”.
Fred Cook’s former lifestyle of hatred as a long time member of, and Chief of Staff for the National Socialist Movement, like so many others, did not start with him waking up one day deciding he wanted to live a hate filled life full of enemies. As an impressionable teen that suffered from lack of an identity, hate took its opportunity, and found Fred when he was most vulnerable.

Who is Fredrick Cook?
Fred Cook’s story is a fascinating one. Our conversation spans Fred’s time as an impressionable teen seeking an identity, then suffering a race related traumatic event, then falling in with skinheads…  and so much more leading up to present day, where Fred has been out of the NSM for several years and has taken his and his family’s life in a 180 degree turn from his former hate driven lifestyle full of enemies.

Episode 70: Redemption for Radicals? Shifting the Paradigm… conversation with Jeff Schoep

Do you believe in redemption for radicals? Do you believe those who’ve once believed in a hateful ideology or been party to hateful organizations can do anything to redeem themselves? I think it’s unwise to say that we cannot change the hearts and minds of those who’ve lead a life of hate and radical extremism. I would not be doing this podcast if I did not think they could be reached.

This week’s guest is a shining example of someone who has gone from extremism to counter-extremism and now devotes his time to de-radicalizing the haters instead of being the hater. Jeff Schoep, former Neo-Nazi and former leader of the National Socialist Movement here in the United States did not start out as a hateful extremist, but spent many years of his life on that side of the hate spectrum. You DO NOT want to miss this episode where I ask Jeff how he got to that point and what brought him back to a life not filled with hate and extremism.

Hear from Jeff how great folks like Daryl Davis and Deeyah Kahn and her movie “White Right Meeting the Enemy” played an important role in his paradigm shift and how all the folks at BeyondBarriersUSA.org are helping to de-radicalize people of all types of extremism. Again, you DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS EPISODE!!

Episode 69: Misery, Politics & Extemism… coming soon… DTH Quickshot Episodes

I’ve recently had the idea to start doing some shorter, often random more spur of the moment types of episodes in addition to the regular weekly episode. There are many things that come to me each week that I’d like to share in hopes of engaging more with the listeners. Some of these may just be audio from a YouTube, Tik Tok or other platform, or some may just be quick recordings I do when something strikes me. They may just be me responding to emails or messages on social media. Either way, they’ll likely be random and of varying lengths and topics, so watch for them and share whenever possible.

This week’s episode was just based upon things I’ve seen, done or had on my mind over the course of this past week. Are you miserable with your life, job or maybe a relationship? Misery is a choice that only you can choose to change. I also spoke this past week to the national leadership team of Braver Angels about the We The Peoples’ Forum which I’m honored to be a part of. If you have not heard of that, be sure to check out Episode 66 and my conversation with David Lapp of Braver Angels and the Working Peoples’ Project.
