Achieve Greatness Through Mental Fitness… DTH Episode 131 with Colin C. Thompson

Not a single human being has ever died from a snake bite.  In reality, what kills is not the bite, but actually the venom.  Venom kills and when you hold on to hate and negative emotions, you are allowing the venom of hate kill your positive mental fitness.  Think about the last time that you were filled with hate or negative emotions.  How helpless did you feel?  My guest this week, Colin C. Thompson has also felt that feeling of helplessness.  Fortunately, after building up his mental fitness, Colin was able to avoid negative emotions and the feeling of helplessness.

Colin C. Thompson is a Certified Positive Intelligence Coach and through sharing his own experiences with you, you will gain new insights on mental fitness.  By the end of today’s podcast, you will pick up tools to combat hate, improve your relationships, and increase your peace-of-mind and well-being.  Your ability to maintain a positive mindset, regardless of what is happening to you, is an ability that you can learn. So ask yourself, can you achieve greatness through mental fitness?

Episode 97: “Program Your Life, or Life Will Program You” ~ Les Brown

Like so many out there, I too find myself, at times, getting discouraged. I was having a conversation the other day, with a gentleman that most people would probably know of, and he asked me, “Wilk, is it too late?”, meaning, is it too late to bridge this divide, are we so full of hate and animosity for those of differing opinions that it cannot be turned around? I said to him, I wouldn’t be doing the Derate the Hate podcast if I felt it was too late. But like I said, I too find myself, at times becoming discouraged, and even at times feeling almost defeated. Sometimes when I think it may be time to give up, something happens…

My wife and I were having a discussion this week about all that we have going on, and she could tell I was a bit discouraged with certain things. She asked me if I had ever heard of Les Brown? I had not, so she sent me a YouTube Video of his. That 58 minute inspirational video was pure gold. Much of what Les talks about in the video was stuff that I have talked about on the DTH podcast, but his delivery and cadence are incredible.  This is a must watch or listen to video if you are unsure of the power of you and your mindset. It also brought to mind for me, Episode 52 of the DTH podcast, so for the first time, I am bringing back a large portion of that episode in this one.  Let me know your thoughts on both!

Episode 83: Silver Linings, How they can be found

No situation in life has ever been made better by those who constantly beat the drum of negativity and/or victimhood. As someone who spent a large portion of my life with a bad attitude, I can definitively say that statement because I know it to be true. Gratitude is something I speak of often in this podcast, and in my personal and professional life, because I truly believe that you cannot be happy if you are not grateful, and the happy make the world a better place. As such, the unhappy and ungrateful make the world worse, it’s just the nature of things.

How a situation plays out, for better or for worse, often comes as a result of how we react to it. This is why I also often speak of personal accountability. Life tends to be messy, and there are negative things that happen within our lives every day, that if focused upon, can result in more negativity. Those who don’t constantly focus on the negative, are often those who produce more positive results because their minds generally work in a positive results driven mode rather than the negative. I talk about a simple, and personal example, of how this works and how one can find the silver lining in what seems to be a dark cloud.

Episode 56: Sparking Change to Better the World

Here at the Derate the Hate podcast, we’re all about BETTERING THE WORLD ONE ATTITUDE AT A TIME. In doing so I’m always looking for inspiring and intriguing guests that are looking to do the same. I truly found a kindred spirit when I heard about and reached out to this week’s guest, Rick Ornelas.

Who is Rick Ornelas?
Rick Ornelas is an author and Positive Change Expert who teaches men and women to unlock their amazing potential to create an incredible future and change the world around them.

He’s the author of 12 Hours of Heaven; Lessons for a Better World and founder of I Spark Change, a global movement and online community of those who seek to make the world a better place one act at a time.

Episode 8: Misery Loves Company

We all know at least one person that has a complete inability to see the positive in anything, someone that has nothing positive to say and is always spreading negativity. In this episode I talk about how being positive in the initial part of any conversation can guide the way that conversation can go and the chain reaction effect of positivity or negativity in the people with which you may be interacting. Much like the financial principle that you are the average of the 5 people you associate with most, it is my opinion that you are incapable of being a happy and positive person if the people you associate with most are always negative and miserable.
